I am going to sound like an elitist for saying this. As tribe.net becomes larger, it becomes dumber and less interesting.
Remember around Christmas 2003, when a huge influx of new people came in? Some of them were very cool and interesting, like Annetastic. But a lot of them were, shall we say, eh. I remember Liz bemoaning this at the time.
Well, it's getting worse. And what is there to do about it? Is there somewhere else to go? Doesn't look like it. And I wouldn't want to leave behind all of the cool people I have met here, anyway.
So I guess it's just grin and bear it.

Re: there goes the neighborhood
Sun, July 31, 2005 - 9:12 AMI think that's true of most things, isn't it? I mean, remember what the Internet was like before AOL linked to it? -

Sun, July 31, 2005 - 9:57 AM(either earlier versions of AOL had a "MeToo" button they could push to make that reply to any post on usenet, or that was their mating call)

Re: there goes the neighborhood
Mon, August 1, 2005 - 8:52 AMOr maybe you've just achieved the saturation level for cool and interesting people? -

Re: there goes the neighborhood
Mon, August 1, 2005 - 2:45 PMGood theory, Robyn.
Actually, the way I think it works for me is that as I meet someone cool and interesting, someone lower on the totem pole falls off my personal radar.
How's that for a mixed metaphor?
BTW, I am able to track way more names and faces than I ever thought I would. Too bad my students are so numerous and I only see them for three to six months. -

Re: there goes the neighborhood
Thu, August 4, 2005 - 1:19 AMFunny, I remember that happening right as I started to lag off being a tribe addict back in December of 2003. Suddenly there was a bunch more people. And in my profile blog I was observing I felt that Tribe was slower, with more members, and the feeling of less content.
Go figure. I am here for specific people and tribes anyways. I am just glad they stayed around... -

Re: there goes the neighborhood
Thu, August 4, 2005 - 12:08 PMJack, there are always new and interesting people popping up. Such as my close friend Angel... she appeared in the spring of 2004. -

Re: there goes the neighborhood
Fri, August 5, 2005 - 12:52 AMYou know, after the warm welcome you provided, I was going to ask you to "be my friend." But then I noticed you have exactly 123 friends, and didn't one to be the one to destroy that number...
And I am definitely expecting to meet new people here. I didn't mean to sound like that wasn't one of my goals either! -

Re: there goes the neighborhood
Tue, August 9, 2005 - 6:25 AMYou don't like my close up?
I got all intense and ready for it ~ took days. Especially the bit of bean stuck on one front tooth. Alright, actually it was a mishap when I was last at Disneyland, and when pointed out, took the poised pic. Sadly, my hat has gotten quite dusty...
Like the pink wig BTW. Quite the diva. -

Tue, August 9, 2005 - 7:15 AMSo sad, Mr Dusty Hat.
re: The Wig
Thanks. It was sitting on my friend's dresser, and so there had to be a photo shoot. Aaron H (my BF) has one, too:

Dusty Hats & Mystery Calls
Tue, August 9, 2005 - 1:05 PMYeppers. I have to figure out how to clean felt. There has been a couple of times that I wanted to wear it out - and unfortunately could not!
This reminds me...
There was a random phone call from an unknown 415 number on my cell, around April 2004. There was a lot of background noise, and someone I could barely hear saying, "I think it's Jack...I can see his hat...Hey Jack! Is that you? I see your hat!!"
The only thing I could figure out was that it was someone from Tribe, but of course do not know who.... -
